Our History

2003

Sr. Toni travels through 18 countires in Africa, meets women at the nightly campfires, is inspired by their hopefulness.  Returns to St. Louis.

2004

Sr. Toni realizes that the amount of one lunch in Clayton could be a loan that could make all the difference for a woman in Africa.

2005

First Board is formed for pre-cursor organization.

2006

February Sr. Toni returns to Kenya, Tanzania, and Capetown.  Learns that after learning a trade, students have no money to start a business.

April Constitution and By-laws approved.  MPA is incorporated in the State of Missouri.

November Sr. Toni attends Microcredit summit, meets Muhammed Yunus winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for microfinancing, and Ingrid Munro, founder of Jamii Bora.

December MPA receives nonprofit, tax-exempt status.

2007

February New Board of Directors is formed.

March First MPA newsletter is distributed.

May Sr. Toni returns to Kenya and films INVEST IN US with Heidi Schlatter and Mark Walker.

September MPA forms the Religious Advisory Board.

2008

January Articles on MPA appear in the Southwest City Suburban Journal.

February MPA hosts First Gala dinner-auction, raises $65,000.

May MPA is featured in articles in the St. Louis Business Journal and the St. Louis Review.

June MPA receives its first television mention on Fox 2 News.

July Sr. Toni makes fourth trip, this time to transfer donations to Jamii Bora and to meet Bishop Kaggwa in Masaka, Uganda.

2009

February MPA hosts Second Gala dinner-auction, launches the new Cow Project.  Fund-a-Need alone raises enough money for 22 cows.

July Sr. Toni leads group to Africa and on behalf of MPA provides funding to Caritas MADDO in Uganda and funding to Jamii Bora in Kenya.  With Heidi Schlatter, the group films THE LIVING LOAN about the Cow Project.

October MPA plans for the next five years at a strategic planning meeting.

2010

February MPA hosts Third Gala dinner auction.

March-April Sr. Toni leads group, including Dick Arnoldy, Chair of the Board of Directors to visit the Cow Project in Uganda, Jamii Bora in Kenya, and attend the Microcredit Summit in Nairobi.

July Sr. Toni returns to Tanzania on a fact-finding trip.
